Welcome to an evening at KKVMM, researcher Adam Lundberg gives a lecture about the artist Yael Bartana

When: September 17 at 19.00
Where: KKV Monumental at Bragegatan 15 in Malmö.

The lecture is about the artist Yael Bartana (b. 1970), based in Amsterdam and Berlin, whose photo and video works mix fiction and reality to imagine alternative versions of the past, present and future. Several of the works build up a dreamscape, or a nightmare, where a Jewish Europe is ”re-placed" in the landscapes that once witnessed its destruction during the Holocaust. Bartana's work can be understood as a form of critical spatial practice through which she challenges established notions of memory, belonging and territorial identity.

Adam Lundberg (b. 1987) is a researcher at the Institute for Urban Research (IUR) at Malmö University. He defended his PhD in cultural geography at Uppsala University in 2025 with the thesis Re-Placing Landscape: Countering Ruination with Artistic Imagination, where he examined how the concept of landscape can be understood in relation to migration, diaspora and the displacement of both people and things through contemporary artistic practices. His research ranges between memory studies, critical theory, art history and questions of place and landscape. His ongoing research project Spaces of Reparative Memory examines memory-making through public art in the aftermath of right-wing extremist violence.

The lecture is held within the framework of the PhD course Critical Spatial Practices: Power, Knowledge, and Co-Production given by the Institute for Urban Research at Malmö University in collaboration with the Swedish Art Council. More information about the course can be found here: https://www.iuresearch.se/training/critical-spatial-practices-power-knowledge-and-co-production-doctoral-course/

The lecture will be held in english and is open to everyone but limited to 30 places. KKVMM is located on the third floor. There is an elevator to the left of the entrance. The venue is accessible. HWC available.
